Dumbstruck by Sam Goodburn Directed by Fraser Hooper

Edinburgh 2017

Go see if: You like realistic performers.

Stay away if: You need a solid storyline.

This emerging piece of work has grown from the winning piece in Underbelly’s Circus Maximus competition. It’s a charming portrayal of an awkward young man trying his best to impress but failing miserably. Entertaining and original with creative use of manipulation skills, unicycling skills and audience interactions. His overt and very clever choreographed clumsiness was realistic in performance creating a chaotic but ‘saved at the last minute’ enjoyment for the audience. The chaos extends to the technical and to the script, playing on the audiences knowledge that this is all set up for entertainment purposes which works wonders in the intimate setting.
